Arte Institute is pleased to present a lecture with Susana Caldeira and Joana Carneiro at NYU (53 Washington Square South – Auditorium), on October 5 at 3 pm.
Susana Caldeira (Met Museum´s Musical Instrument Specialist)
Susana Caldeira is an Associate Conservator in The Sherman Fairchild Center for Objects Conservation at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, where she has worked since 2008. She is responsible for the conservation of the collection of Musical Instruments. Susana was born in 1973, in Alcanena, where she grew up. She graduated in Conservation and Restoration at the former Escola Superior de Conservação e Restauro in Lisbon, with the final year internship at The National Music Museum, South Dakota, USA. Later, Susana received a graduate degree in History of Musical Instruments, with emphasis on conservation of Musical Instruments, from the University of South Dakota. Susana returned to Portugal and worked for about 2 years at Museu da Música in Lisbon, and later worked for 5 years in Alcanena’s Town Hall, where she was part of the team putting together the leather-tanning museum. She was also a music student from ages 12 to 26.
The lecture will be followed by a performance by The West European Symphony Orchestra (WESO/US) (String Quintet), that will play Eurico Carrapatoso.
