I Meeting of Lusophone Writers
I Meeting of Lusophone Writers
Casa-das-Artes/Palácio da Brejoeira (House-of-the Arts/ Brejoeira Palace) and the Arte Institute presented the I Meeting of Lusophone Writers, from 29 to 31 July, at Palácio da Brejoeira.
Novelists, musicians, poets, actors, directors, researchers, creators… people from different cultural and artistic clusters reflected upon the Lusophone reality; upon new technologies and their relationship with literature and the Arts, as well as upon the alter mundi movements (environmentalism, entrepreneurship, antiwar, feminism, etc.), and the situation of the Arts in the contemporary world.
This project relies on the attendance of European, African and American noteworthy writers who express themselves through the Portuguese language.
Portugal, Galiza, Brazil, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, Cape Verde, São Tomé and Timor-Leste were the dominions of our human and literary experience, while we aimed at thinking about Lusophony in the anthropological sense of the word. This approach seems to be fundamental for the purpose of engendering rapprochement policies among the Portuguese speaking people and the all the peoples of the world, in light of the Lusophone countries’ relatively narrow endeavour in exploring their rich linguistic and cultural differences.
The purpose of this Meeting was the celebration of culture, music and literature, through the gathering of writers and visual artists at the launch of literary pieces, presentation of artistic projects, poetry recitals, screening of movies about writers and several interventions of Performative Art.
