José Carlos Alegria, was born in Évora in 1953. Under the direction of Mário Barradas and Luís Varela, he took the training course for actors at Centro Cultural de Évora (1977/1979). He worked as an actor at Centro Cultural de Évora, at Teatro da Rainha and at Centro Dramático de Évora. For six years, he was one of the actors who gave life to Bonecos de Santo Aleixo. In 1991, he made his own puppet theatre, ONCE UPON A TIME, PUPPET THEATRE.
At the turn of the millennium, his son, Carlos Miguel Meira Alegria, came to work with him, and his daughter, Ana Margarida Meira Alegria, joined them in 2006.
The scenographers Vasco Fernando, António Canelas, Iria Kovacs and Amândio Anastácio made almost all of their pupetts.
The company has more than 20 shows on scene and has already presented its shows in Portugal, Spain, Andorra, France, Switzerland, Germany, Luxembourg, Holland, Belgium, Italy and São Tomé e Príncipe.
