Written by Brazilian award-winning writer, filmmaker and journalist José Paulo Lanyi, the scenic novel “Deus me disse que não existe” will be released in Lisbon on July 7. In free translation “God told me He does not exist”, the book published by Chiado Books tells us the story of a time when God and the Devil decided to end Heaven and Hell. With a metaphysical inflection, the comedy is narrated by Lucifer and his involuntary humour. He is seconded by such advisors as Torquemada, Genghis Khan, Sejanus, Messalina, Cleopatra, Tamerlane and Ivan the Terrible. The scenic novel is a creation of Lanyi that combines traditional novel with theatrical play. “It is a genre that contains the novel – long prose with dialogues – and, at the same time, a play ready to be staged,” explains the author. “The challenge of the writer is to harmonize the two genres, so that the plot is sustained both in the hands of the reader and on the stage,” he adds.

Don´t miss it!
