The Boston Portuguese Festival announces the Literature in Portuguese Language Conference 2016 entitled “Sacredness and Profanities in Lusophone Literature.” This conference aims to highlight key debates from the concepts of the construction of the Sacred and Profane in Contemporary Portuguese-speaking countries Literature. The main focus of the analysis is to reflect on what these authors in these two areas of Lusophone production may think, how they think, and ultimately how they voice theirs speech at the idea of Sacred versus Profane versus Religious in the literary canon. The main goal is to rethink and reflect on Sacred and/or Transcendent, either by their juxtaposition or simply by the contact between these writers of the various Portuguese-speaking countries.
We will be celebrating cultures, identities, and diversity in the Portuguese-speaking world by tracing the roots of the Lusophone concept and discourse.
Writers, academic researchers, scholars, teachers, students, community, and everyone who is interested in ideas and thoughts will create a memorable debate on the challenges of the Lusophone world.
