Arte Institute suggests “Ana Laíns with Pedro Galveias: Traditional Portuguese Fado Music”.

The Center for Music Connections (CMC) is proud to announce its U.S. launch event: A concert performance by Portuguese Fado singer, Ana Laíns with Pedro Galveias: Traditional Portuguese Fado Music, on October 16, 8:00 pm at the University of Rochester’s Eastman School of Music, Killborn Hall, Rochester, New York.

Their ensemble includes Sandro Costa (Portuguese guitar) and Antonío Fernando Costa Neto (viola). This concert, part of the Eastman School’s World Music Series, sponsored by a generous gift from Barbara B. Smith to the University of Rochester, will immerse you in passionate music unique to Portugal, recognized by UNESCO as the intangible heritage of humankind. Music critic, Jeff Spevak of Rochester’s Democrat & Chronicle chose this concert as one of his top Eastman Concert picks this year. The Honorable Robert A. The launch event will kick-off promotion of CMC’s 2016 tours:  Adventure in Portugal: Music, Culture & Vineyard Tour (June 4-12, August 6-14 and October 1-9), and an Iberian Music Tour, which will be offered through the prestigious Virtuoso Network. Opportunities will abound for interactions with musicians, singers, luthiers, and ethnomusicologists through concerts and informal gatherings.

The CMC, a non-profit association incorporated in Portugal in 2012, is led by a diverse group of professionals from the U.S. and Portugal. CMC members share a passion for music as a source of beauty, human understanding and economic development.
