Arte Institute presents its Thanksgiving Concert with Sara Serpa and André Matos.
Vocalist Sara Serpa and guitarist AndreÌ Matos have been performing in a duo setting since 2004. The music they create together has been taking many turns.
They use mostly songs, both originals and someone else Ìs, to establish a moody ambient, sometimes using effects, other times completely acoustic.
They can be at once both contemplative and direct. Although not attached to style, they convey a avant-garde quality in their approach and a chamber like sound.
The balance between loose open forms and tight rhythms or unisons, creates efficient contrast through tension and release, and that Ìs what makes this duo so appealing.
