Arte Institute is pleased to present a talk with poet Glória de Melo, professor Deolinda Adão and writer Katherine Vaz at Rutgers University (Paul Robeson Campus Center, Dance Theater, 3rd floor (350, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr Blvd, Newark, NJ)), on October 21 at 6.30 pm.
Glória de Melo (Poet)
Although born in Lisbon, her roots are with Beira Alta, more specifically Parada de Gonta, where she spent her childhood surrounded by her family members, in a world of poetry.
Gloria is the author of the American diaspora, poets and declaimer, author of an opuscule named “Pouca Terra Pouco Pão”, and a poetry book entitled “A minha Mão Esquerda”. She also had several collaborations on literary anthologies in Brazil and Portugal. She is the author of two poetry compact discs, recorded with originals of her own authorship along with interpretations of Portuguese and Brazilian poets.
Gloria de Mello has been running the Literary and Cultural Section of Newark’s Sport Club Português, ProVerbo, for 12 years.
For many years, her professional life has been connected to TAP Portugal airline in North America.
Using it as her life slogan, she believes that Poetry will save the world, and that… ”It is good to be important… but it is most important to be good”.
