SYNOPSIS |
Generation is Constança Clara’s first solo exhibition, which takes place at Espaço Amoreiras’ atrium. The exhibition focuses on the imagesthat emerge fromthe artist’s experiences with Nature. This art selection presents an installation that appeals to a sensorial experience and a set of study objects about the gestures of stones, plants and animals.
The proposed intervention for the atrium creates a new, ephemeral, site, that works with the light as a shaping element of space. At the atrium, the natural light penetratesthis installation through a series of light openings, that enables a dialogue between the two (in and out) spaces, while focusing on the sunlight and moonlight paths throughout the day and night.
In addition to the installation, the exhibition is also formed by sculptural objects, photographs, drawings and paintings. These art forms are hybrid shapes that interconnect the mineral, vegetal and animal kingdoms, where the combination of natural elements and others – found or appropriated – with the human artifice, creates new and surprising images.
Biography |
Constança Clara (1986)
Based and working at Boa dos Nabos, Ericeira, Portugal
Constança Clara graduated in Sculpture, at the Faculty of Fine Arts of Lisbon. In 2010, the following year to the conclusion of her college degree, Constança attended a post-graduation in Fine Arts, at the Central Saint Martins – Byam Shaw School of Art, in London. She participated in many art exhibitions in Spain, Portugal and the city of London, from which we may highlight Portugal é Lisboa, o resto é paisagem, at Hub Creativo do Beato, in Lisbon (2017); Círculo a dentro, imagem que sai fora, at Avenida da Liberdade 211, in Lisbon (2014); O Peso das Coisas, curated by João Rolaça, at Centro Cultural Município do Cartaxo (2013); Colectivo de Artes Plásticas, at SILOS–Contentor Criativo, in Caldas da Rainha (2012); IKAS ART, at Centro de Exposições de Bilbao, in Spain (2011); PGDips Final Show, at Byam Shaw School of Arts, in London (2011); Lapptopp Barometery, Concourse Gallery, in London (2011); and Sculpture Final Show, at Parque dos Sete Castelos, in Oeiras, Portugal (2009).
In 2010, Constança developed a public art project, named Paço, while she was doing an artistic residence, at Moledo. The project involved the community in the construction of an artwork and aimed to contribute to the rehabilitation of the old riverside area of the village. This work contributed to the beginning of the public art program Moledo Acontece.
The artist is also a founding member of the collective C², which counts with more than 20 artists (including Tiago Franco, Diogo Moniz, Catarina Alves and Duarte Castelo Branco, among others), and many public events in unusual spaces. The places chosen to their art exhibitions have usually been in a transformation process, in the current context of Lisbon’s urban rehabilitation, based in a city’s adaptation to the recent international tourism interests. The collective realized exhibitions at LxFactory (2018); at Creative Hub do Beato (2017); at Clube Atlético de Campolide (2016); and in an old palace at Bairro Alto (2015).
