The Travels of D. Pedro II in Brazil and Around the World
The exhibition “The Travels of D. Pedro II in Brazil and Around the World” presents a rare documentary and historical journey through the travels of D. Pedro II, highlighting his role as an observer, intellectual and cultural mediator in the 19th century.
Drawing on manuscripts, images and travel diaries produced by D. Pedro II over nearly fifty years, the exhibition offers new perspectives on the formation of the contemporary world, exploring themes such as cultural diversity, scientific curiosity and international relations. These records, preserved by the Museu Imperial in Petrópolis, reveal a figure deeply engaged with knowledge, modernity and dialogue between nations.
By revisiting these journeys, the exhibition underscores D. Pedro II’s pioneering role in what we now understand as cultural diplomacy, connecting Brazil with Europe and other parts of the world through exchange, observation and intellectual openness.
Promoted by Arte Institute, this project reinforces the importance of history, memory and culture as tools for reflection and international dialogue.
