CIDADES EM ARTES – two documentaries, four voices

On 21 May, the Real Gabinete Português de Leitura in Rio de Janeiro will host the “Cidades em Artes” event: two documentaries, four voices, and an entire afternoon dedicated to Portuguese culture and the untold stories.

At 10.00 am, Daniel Cavalcanti Pimentel and Suely Campos Franco present “Salatinas: Histórias da Velha Alta de Coimbra” (2025) – the testimony of the last survivors of a community wiped off the map to make way for the University City. A documentary about power, identity and the price of progress.

At 2.30 pm, Ana Ventura Miranda and Ida Alves present “Portugueses do SoHo: uma História que Mudou de Geografia” (2016), featuring the memories of Portuguese immigrants who made the New York neighbourhood their new home.
