SUMMARY:O Gajo Concert | Rio de Janeiro
DESCRIPTION:O Gajo was born in Lisbon in the spring of 2016 at the hands of João Morais with the aim of linking his music to the land of his birth\, Portugal. This is how the relationship with the Viola Campaniça came about\, a traditional instrument that is part of Portugal’s centuries-old cultural history. Also known as Viola Alentejana\, the Viola Campaniça was the musical instrument used to accompany the famous ‘cantares à desgarrada’\, or ‘cantes a despique’\, at Alentejo festivals and fairs. It is the largest of the Portuguese violas and has five orders of strings\, traditionally played with the thumb. \nJoão Morais has been a musician since 1988 and after almost 30 years of playing guitars from abroad\, it was at a concert in Beja that he got to know the Viola Campaniça. The one he brings to Lisbon takes on new tones\, moving away from the more traditional language but keeping its Portugueseness intact. \nO Gajo’s compositions may sound like fado\, but they are not fado\, they may sound like traditional music\, but they are not traditional music\, they are a hybrid of all this and much more. O Gajo plays music from the world and for the world! \nGet your ticket . \nOrganization: Arte Institute \nPatrons – Arte Institute: Camões – Instituto da Cooperação e da Língua | Fundação Luso-Americana – Para o Desenvolvimento | Caixa Geral de Depósitos | Câmara Municipal de Cascais \nPartner – Arte Institute: Pestana Hotel Group

SUMMARY:Inclinar
DESCRIPTION:INCLINAR is a performance that uses improvisation as a language. \nA meeting between a cellist and a dancer\, between music and dance\, sound and movement. An old cello\, which also brings its history and its body in presence. Sounds that appear and disappear. The wood\, the colors\, the pauses\, the silence. Carrying the strength of the present moment\, it is clear that the bodies let themselves touch\, bend\, undulate\, sway. \nOver the course of 30 minutes\, there is an invitation to communicate and share the sound that becomes body\, the body that makes sound. That affects and allows itself to be affected\, between inclinations\, arches and curves\, we can follow a unique conversation between these women’s bodies and the world. These are poetic and free relationships between artistic research and each person’s life experience. A meeting between two women artists: a meeting between Mariana and Raquel. \nDon’t miss them at:\nRio de Janeiro\, on August 12th\, 15th\, 17th and 18th\nCuritiba\, on August 22nd\, 23rd\, 24th and 25th

SUMMARY:João Diogo Leitão
DESCRIPTION:CONCERT\nJOÃO DIOGO LEITÃO\nWith a Master’s Degree in Classical Guitar Performance from the prestigious The Hague Royal Conservatory (The Netherlands)\, several prizes\, concerts as soloist with the most important Portuguese orchestras\, and presentations in all the major Portuguese concert halls\, João Diogo Leitão is considered one of the most preeminent young musicians and guitarists of his generation. His discovery of ‘viola braguesa’ – a traditional acoustic guitar from northern Portugal\, usually associated with traditional/folk music – his fascination for its timbre and the untapped potential of this instrument\, triggered a poetic urgency that led him to investigate and compose music for it. These compositions arose from the natural encounter between the worlds of classical and traditional music\, innovating in technical and aesthetic approaches to create an unprecedented repertoire for this instrument. \nJoão Diogo Leitão’s debut album “por onde fica a primavera” for solo ‘viola braguesa’ is a pioneering and original creation that brings together\, through a contemporary approach and a natural virtuosity\, his memories of classical and traditional music\, creating his own unique imaginary sound world. \nGo hear it on August 14th in Times Square!

SUMMARY:Terra Livre | Concert
DESCRIPTION:Terra Livre | Concert\n\n\n\n\n\n  \nSeptember\, 2024\n“Terra Livre” is the exploratory album/territory of the two adventurous musicians João Morais (better known as O GAJO) and Ricardo Vignini. Portugal and Brazil in close affinity and two cultures in one voice. \nOn stage\, the violas bring all their cultural baggage\, their characteristic sound and a unique and original repertoire. The result of a musical empathy that has become an innovative friendship\, capable of crossing borders and oceans. \nThe transatlantic meeting of the two musicians took place in 2022 via social media. A musical rapport triggered a first contact with Vignini’s participation in GAJO’s album “Não Lugar” (2023)\, which quickly turned into a regular exchange of ideas and the desire to cross the two artistic and cultural worlds that characterize these players. The result was “Terra Livre”. \nIn Brazil\, Ricardo Vignini\, who has had a solo career for 20 years\, takes his Viola Caipira on great journeys from traditional references to more personalized and contemporary approaches. In Portugal\, O GAJO follows a similar path\, taking his traditional Viola Campaniça into more urban and contemporary artistic territories\, inspired by his rock music career of over 25 years. \nYou can see them at:\nSESC Jundiaí – September 1st\nSteel Bar – September 3rd\nEspaço Musical S&T – September 6th\nSESC Campinas – September 7th\nFestival Choro in Jazz – September 8th
