SUMMARY:‘Efflorescence: variations on color’ Exhibition | New York
DESCRIPTION:The Arte Institute supports the exhibition ‘Efflorescence: variations on color’ by Ana D’ Castro that is going to take place in New York between September 8th and October 13th. \nVenue: Leila HellerAddress: 17 East 76th Street\, NY 10021Date: September 8th – October 13th\, 2022 \nDescription:Ana’s works are an embodiment of how color speaks the language of the soul\, expressing deep emotions and connections through beautiful waltz of colorful fragments dancing through the canvas. Each of her projects creates a kinetic immersion into a sensorial world of colors\, wherein the visitors become a part of the artwork itself. Her work is analogous to a tridimensional fusion of art\, architecture and the dimension of time\, which is added by audiences’ trajectory in space around the artwork. \nThis show comprises of a series of paintings made by an assemblage of materials added onto the canvas\, creating heavy texture of layers\, which Ana progressively manipulates in the confined areas. Color is added with an intended proportion and gradient tonalities which complement each other\, creating depth and volume in the piece. \n

SUMMARY:The Gift - 'Coral' | Leiria
DESCRIPTION:The Arte Institute presents a concert with The Gift on September 28th\, at Teatro José Lúcio da Silva\, in Leiria\, where the band will present their new album ‘Coral’. Watch the teaser of the show on RHI Stage. \nVenue: Teatro José Lúcio da Silva\nAddress: Av. Heróis de Angola\, 2400-093 Leiria\nDate: September 28th\, 2022 – 9.30 PM\nTickets \nDescription:\nThe search for sound. We reach a certain point in life that the search for sounds to make records begins to be unproductive. Nothing fills us. Nothing tells us… A new sound is a blank sheet of paper. It is from there that everything is drawn. \nFrom the stimuli we least expect come answers. Like the film ‘A Grande Belleza’ by Paolo Sorrentino that begins with a chorus of nine voices that feed the daily lives of so many. As if the voices conducted the soundtrack of what we do\, of what we are… And if the root of that sound we seek is the human being… The voice. The voices. \nThe blank sheet of paper found. A chorus on one side\, or in the core of the sheet… The multiple voices give the form\, the content\, the message. The other voice\, Sonia’s over all. The lyrics in Portuguese. \nThe voices that make melody\, harmony and rhythm and say words. They carry and elevate the meaning of each phrase. \nLife is made of contrasts\, of right and wrong things\, of good and bad moments\, of days and nights… And after the velvet of the human part\, the contrast… The rough of electronics. Raw\, rude\, cruel. \nCoral is born from this encounter. Of this blank sheet that has always been the search for sound. The record came out without warning. It came out from inside us. We weren’t expecting it. The musician today has to follow instincts\, but above all respect impulses. Nothing is organized with time. Things come out. You either take advantage of it\, or you don’t. The tour of this Coral is one of those moments. Unique\, that come out of us without warning… Our impulse\, to do the right concerts\, in the right places. It will be mostly out of respect for that which is not foreseen\, our impulses. You either take advantage of them or you don’t. Behind the curtain of every theater and auditorium\, a choir that fills the stage\, and the Gift. Some clinging to the lyrics\, others clinging to the rough laboratory of electronics. Coral Live is above all a celebration. Of life. Of the impulse. Of us still being here following that which cannot be seen\, our instinct. \n  \nSupport ||\n| RHI\n| Câmara Municipal de Leiria\n| Caixa de Crédito de Leiria \nInstitutional Partner ||\n| República Portuguesa/Cultura

SUMMARY:Puppet Show ‘Teatro Dom Roberto’ by S.A. Marionetas | São Tomé
DESCRIPTION:SYNOPSIS\n‘The Dom Roberto’ Theater certainly represents one of the oldest traditions of the performing arts\, not only in its Portuguese and European aspects\, but also in the popular heroes of the East. In fact\, the origin of this popular art form of representation goes back\, in the European tradition to the 16th century Italian Commedia dell ‘Arte and it does not seem unlikely that the Eastern traditions have had any influence on the evolution of this traditional type of representation. \nJosé Gil (S.A.Marionetas)\, having had the privilege of direct contact with Mestre António Dias\, one of the last popular Portuguese puppeteers\, recreated\, based on his testimony\, two pieces – ‘O Barbeiro’ and ‘A Tourada’. More recently\, and looking to preserve this traditional art form\, the company has recovered three more pieces from the Robertos Theater repertoire – ‘A Rosa e os 3 Namorados’ and ‘O Castelo dos Fantasmas’ and Saloio de Alcobaça’. \nPARTNERS\n| Camões – Instituto da Cooperação e da Língua\n| Banco Internacional de São Tomé e Príncipe\n| Pestana Hotel Group \nARTE INSTITUTE – PATRONS\n| Camões – Instituto da Cooperação e da Língua\n| Fundação Luso-Americana para o Desenvolvimento\n| Caixa Geral de Depósitos\n| Câmara Municipal de Cascais \nARTE INSTITUTE – PARTNER\n| Pestana Hotel Group

SUMMARY:Memorial do Convento Choreographed Reading and Workshop | São Tomé
DESCRIPTION:SYNOPSIS\nBased on the literary work Memorial do Convento by José Saramago\, MEMORIAL DO CONVENTO _ CHOREOGRAPHED READING / WORKSHOP FOR CHILDREN (8 /12 YEARS OLDER) is part of and integrated into the educational program associated with the creation of the ballet Memorial do Convento. As a first contact with Saramago’s work\, this choreographed reading and workshop for children unites the literary universe with the possibilities of dance as a narrative expression that starts with the body and movement. \nThe sonority of the word and the narration of the story find an echo in the performer’s body that chains itself in a narrative movement between the characters. Can a single choreographic body bring forth the narrative fluency of Baltasar\, Blimunda\, Friar Lawrence\, and other characters in the novel? And where do the wills come from? And how does the construction of a convent emerge as the setting for a love story that is surrounded by the greatest complexities of human attitude? After the choreographic reading\, a workshop follows where children are invited to explore the narrative basis of the movement and how it proposes to characterize the characters\, the space and the time of the novel’s action. \nPARTNERS\n| Camões – Instituto da Cooperação e da Língua\n| Banco Internacional de São Tomé e Príncipe\n| Pestana Hotel Group\n| CACAU \nARTE INSTITUTE – PATRONS\n| Camões – Instituto da Cooperação e da Língua\n| Fundação Luso-Americana para o Desenvolvimento\n| Caixa Geral de Depósitos\n| Câmara Municipal de Cascais \nARTE INSTITUTE – PARTNER\n| Pestana Hotel Group

SUMMARY:‘Push it Online’ by Sublime Dance Company | Funchal
DESCRIPTION:SYNOPSIS\nThis piece is a reflection on our digital presence in today’s world and how this presence impacts our identity. What responsibility entails creating this presence and what is the role of the body in the digital world. What is the role of the movement? \n‘Push it Online’ investigates the search for meaning that haunts the human being. One meaning\, a purpose\, a goal – what binds us to this world that is constantly on? What kind of links? Will our identity be as volatile as a status in an online profile? What need is this to define ourselves in the eyes of a world in constant definition? A world that does not stop. \nWe live in a reality that transcends the data stored in the same reality. We live in the moment of diving\, but we also live the photo\, the video\, the comment\, sharing\, opinions\, of the dive. Diving wets our body and then floods our minds. A river of dice that doesn’t stop flowing\, dice that combine to urge us to be a certain way\, to think a certain way and to accept ourselves according to what is actually accepted online. \nThe truth matters less and the novelty matters more. What risks do we take in set goals about fleeting things\, things that don’t stick\, that easily they lose their meaning\, they change course from one day to the next\, from one second to the other. Are we needed as individuals? Or will we soon be expendable? One body\, a relic\, less efficient\, more erroneous than a small computer\, more likely to break\, more emotional\, less confident\, a body! Just a body.

SUMMARY:Movie ‘The Year of the Death of Ricardo Reis’ by João Botelho | Boston
DESCRIPTION:SYNOPSIS\nFernando Pessoa\, one of the greatest writers of the Portuguese language established a gigantic parallel universe creating a series of heteronyms to survive his loneliness of genius. José Saramago\, Nobel laureate of literature in 1998\, wrote this novel returning the heteronymous Ricardo Reis to Portugal\, after 16 years of exile in Brazil. \n1936 is the year of all danger\, Mussolini’s fascism\, Hitler’s Nazism\, the terrible Spanish civil war and Salazar’s Estado Novo in Portugal. Two women\, Lídia and Marcenda are Ricardo Reis’ carnal and impossible passions. Literature as well as cinema allows ‘Life and Death is all one’. Fantastic realism is the subject-matter of this movie. \nPARTNERS\n| Camões – Instituto da Cooperação e da Língua\n| Embassy of Portugal in Washington D.C.\n| University of Massachusetts Boston \nARTE INSTITUTE – PATRONS\n| Camões – Instituto da Cooperação e da Língua\n| Fundação Luso-Americana para o Desenvolvimento\n| Caixa Geral de Depósitos\n| Câmara Municipal de Cascais \nARTE INSTITUTE – PARTNER\n| Pestana Hotel Group
