Competition for young lusophone poets
Is open, until December 31, 2014, the literary contest that will culminate in the publication of the anthology Emergente – Novos Poetas Lusófonos. The iniciative of the Portuguese writer Samuel Pimenta, in partnership with Livros de Ontem Publishing House, intends to discover and publish the young lusophone poets aged from 18 to 30 years.
“Initiatives like this, targeting young poets, are infrequent. Therefore we intend to select up to 12 young lusophone poets from around the world and assemble them in a yearly publication. We want Emergente to have a plural voice representative of the spoken Portuguese around the world”, explains Samuel Pimenta, coordinator of the anthology.
Given the difficulties that many young poets have trying to penetrate the publishing market, the anthology Emergente aims to create a space of opportunity and recognition that enables the national and international projection of its participants.
“Regardless of where the poets live, the only conditions are to express themselves in Portuguese, whatever the variant, and are between 18 and 30 years old. Therefore, all the poets who live in diaspora are included, as well as those who do not have Portuguese as their first language, but who choose to write in Portuguese”, explains João Batista, CEO and publisher of Livros de Ontem Publishing House.
The jury is composed of Samuel Pimenta, a member of Livros de Ontem Publishing House and a third element of surprise that will be revealed soon. “It will be a poet with a solid and recognized career”, says Samuel Pimenta.
