Biography
José Valente, Porto, PT. Violist and Composer.
Viola graduation from Kaertner Landes Konservatorium (Austria) with the highest grade, and Jazz at the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music in New York, with honours. Currently doing a doctorate degree in Contemporary Art at the University of Coimbra (Portugal). Played with Paquito D’Rivera, Don Byron and Hank Roberts. Performed at Carnegie Hall, Dizzy’s Club at Lincoln Center, Banff Centre, 16ª Cerveira’s Art’s Biennale, Serralves Fundation.
Received an honorary mention at the composition award PRÉMIO LOPES GRAÇA 2009 and won the Arts Project competition from SERRALVES EM FESTA 2010. He’s the founder and composer of the international project EXPERIENCES OF TODAY. He was recently invited to do an artistic residency at the Djerassi Residency Artists Program in San Francisco.
