Emerge / Evolve
Arte Institute suggests Emerge / Evolve by Manuela Castro Martins.
Emerge / Evolve (2014)
July 19 – October 11, 2014 at Bay Area Gallery, Emeryville
The Portuguese artist Manuela Castro Martins is among the winners of this year’s “Emerge”. The artist participated with one of her pieces “Lace Glass”, which won the award for design.
Emerge 2014 is Bullseye’s eighth biennial kiln-glass exhibition for emerging artists.
Bullseye started the biennial Emerge competition twelve years ago and it has, from its inception, been an expression of our commitment to emerging artists working in kiln-glass. Emerge / Evolve brings together former Emerge award winners and finalists, along with finalists from the most recent competition. Bullseye’s Bay Area Gallery is the second stop on the exhibition’s national tour. In November, Emerge / Evolve travels to the Pittsburgh Glass Center. The tour will culminate at Bellevue Arts Museum (BAM). At BAM an expanded edition of the exhibition will include enlarged installations and additional works from selected artists.
The Emerge 2014 finalists were selected from 326 entries from 32 countries and represent 35 schools. The finalists were evaluated by a panel of three jurors: Kathleen Moles, independent curator; Emily Nachison, Department Chair, Fibers, at the Oregon College of Art and Craft; and James Yood, critic and Associate Professor of Art History at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
Emerge 2014 features: Rei Chikaoka, Japan; Kate Clements, USA; Marion Delarue, France; Abram Deslauriers, USA; Opie Hileman, USA; Manuela Castro Martins, Portugal; Anna Mlasowsky, Germany/USA; Cheryl Wilson Smith, Canada; James B.
