2012 Evolve Dance Festival

Evolve Dance – Westchester’s Link to Contemporary Dance
Presents 6th Annual Evolve and Y Dance Festivals at Tarrytown Music Hall in March 2012

Resident Guest Choreographer Faye Driscoll

Presents New Works Along With National/International Guest Artists in Evening of Visionary Professional Dance

Brazilian Choreographer Patrick Lander's piece "Noodles never break when boiled" (2010) was invited to be part of 2012 Evolve Dance Festival.

The Evolve Dance Festival will take place on March 16th, 2012.  The Festival will include works by celebrated choreographers Faye Driscoll, hailed as “1 of 25 to watch out for in 2008” by Dance Magazine; Daniel Gwirtzman, highly esteemed choreographer, director, and performer; Max Pollak, award-winning artist and founder of RumbaTap; Lander Patrick, internationally acclaimed choreographer joining us all the way from Portugal with "Noodles never break when boiled"; Hilary Sweeney, extraordinary aerial artist; and emerging choreographers Jiwon Lee and Mana Kawamura, both of whom are rapidly becoming recognized through NY and beyond for their innovative and visually stunning work. As Guest Artist-in-Residence, Driscoll spent 3 months creating a new work for Evolve’s professional company as well as developing a duet for herself and her dance partner Jesse Zarrit.  Evolve’s commitment to collaborating with professional guest artists from New York City and beyond provides a rare opportunity for local dancers and dance patrons.  Evolve’s dancers work in a professional atmosphere with established choreographers who are on the forefront of the contemporary dance scene, while audiences gain access to cutting –edge professional dance right here in Westchester.

The 6th Annual Evolve Festival follows Evolve’s tradition of presenting performances by a diverse array of professional dance companies and dancers, including contemporary dance, traditional dance, social dance, dance with live music, and dance that defies classification.  Previous years’ Festival included performances by Kyle Abraham/Abraham.In.Motion, Julian Barnett, Camille A. Brown, Rebecca Kelly Ballet, Nicholas Leichter Dance, Riedel Dance Theater, and many more.

Evolve Dance will also present performances by Y Dance students at the Y Dance Festival at the Tarrytown Music Hall on March 17th and 18th.  The Y Dance program, founded in 2007 at the Family YMCA of Tarrytown, is dedicated to providing professional dance training to children, teens, and adults.

The opportunity for both adult and youth students to study and perform in a professional setting is an important mission for Evolve Co-Director Jane Alexandre, an established dancer, teacher and choreographer whose past affiliations include the Dance Theatre of Harlem and the Humphrey Dance Ensemble. Says Alexandre, “I am passionately devoted to providing meaningful, serious dance education and performance opportunities for everyone.  Performing is key; I understand dance as a performing art through which we can communicate the human experience.”

Evolve Dance, Inc., led by Artistic Directors Jane Alexandre and Julie B. Johnson, is a nonprofit professional dance company in collaboration with the Family YMCA of Tarrytown providing classical and innovative dance training for all through the Y Dance Program.  The Y Dance Program serves hundreds of children, teens, and adults and offers a full recreational dance program coupled with a pre-professional training program; its mission is to engage students physically and mentally while fostering an appreciation for culture, community and the arts.  Evolve Dance, Inc. was founded in 2006 with the mission to create and connect dancing communities through investigation, reflection, and action.
